Hi, can anyone help with these? Fuel tap bolts and plastic washers (2 ea.) that connect fuel tap to the tank. Or can I use regular washers and bolts without the chance of fuel leaks? Its for a 1981 z1000ltd. Thanks.

Regular M6 bolts of the same length will be fine.

My Z650 had copper washers though

If its similar to the J tap the bolts are a set length which bottom out in the holes in the tank. (blind holes)
This is to set the gap for the tap to sit in and those clear plastic / nylon washers are 'Crush' washers to set the compression on the oval rubber between tap and tank skin!
Clear plastic / nylon washers are available from Zpower and others too i suspect.
If you use copper washers and wind them up to stop the oval rubber leaking you may bend the 'ears' of the tap out of flat and end up worse off!

Hi Al, thanks for the advice, I will try and get hold of the correct parts then. The bolt holes go straight into the tank, they aren't 'blind' holes on my tank so length shouldn't be a problem. It's the washers I am more interested in getting right, the tap has countersunk spaces for the washers to sit in so need to be right. I ballsed mine up with por15 when I sealed the tank. :(

Hi, I tend to use stainless allen head bolts and a washers externally, but I do use the plastic washers between tap and tank. I also run a smear of copper silicone along the rubber seal just for piece of mind. A few tanks done this way without issues.

Strange! No plastic washers on my Z650 tap, just 2 external copper ones. I'll have to check the parts diagrams
