Evening all, anyone know where to buy an aircraft style fuel filler cap or have one in good condition for sale? I have seen the Mocal ones on evilbay, just wondered if there is a cheaper one available. Cheers Crofty

cheepest option is to buy a modern damaged tank with one fitted

Jim,
I bought one from here;
http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/FUEL- ... index.html
Then spent a small fortune sorting out breathers. I had a breather outlet fitted to the tank at the same time the filler was fitted. Problem was a 'one way' valve to let air in was no good, as the tank gets warm, the pressure needs to vent out. The 'one way' valve caused some serious back pressure in the tank.
I did resolve it all in the end, but I won't go into all that here. PM me if you want all the 'nitty gritty'.
Using a donor filler is an excellent way of doing things & will have a breather built in. Here's a Yamaha filler fitted complete.

I would like a non locking one, one less key to lose. What size diameter was the one you used GB?, breather situation should'nt be a problem for the guy that will do this for me, he makes frames and tanks in ali and steel.

Jim,
I used the smallest one they had (3.15" o.d.) so it would not overhang the edges of the raised centre section of the 'J' tank.
If I were fitting this type to a 'rounder' Z1000/650 style tank I would use one with a larger o.d.

Jim,
This one works out slightly cheaper than the same item from Merlin. Some useful info for you in the description too.
