What are the symptoms of the slow running problem,my brother has a 650 kawasaki workshop manual for the dealers i wil look to see if there are any references to poor slow running, also what type of carbs are they, standard 24s or 34mm CVs :)

Hello Kev.
The symptoms are very rich running at tickover and it is slow to come back to idle after revving. The cable and linkage is free and well lubed. You can set the idle and then rev it up and it will only come down to 2000rpm,you reset it and next time it will stall.I just figured if i could run through the carbs, float heights etc and take it from there. These types of carbs are alien to me after the triples. The novelty still hasnt worn off about pressing that button on the rh switch gear and the engine then making a noise. :P

Hi Adrian, beg steal or borrow a Gunson colortune, set the idle mix at tickover using this till you get nice bunsen blue,(check the seats on the choke plungers these can perish letting fuel through at tickover hence rich)when you get a good bunsen blue and you have checked the following all jets clear and standard, needle notch set to middle, float height set manually or using manometer method, all carb rubbers to airbox and to head supple and sucking in no air, air filter clean, spray wd40 around and see if engine note changes to check. Then balance carbs using dial gauges or mercury gauges as last stage. As far as i know the carbs i sold you are bog standard should be a good starting point give me a pm or call if you are struggling Cheers Paul J.

Genuine Kawasaki manual is the best by far, comes up on ebay quite regularly (especially in the US, I got mine from there)

I have stripped and cleaned the carbs today. When i checked the float levels they were 30mm even though they had been "overhauled" with service kits in recent times.I refitted them and it now runs like a bird.Really pleased and thanks for the help chaps. :D :sf
