Anyone shipped gear back from the states? I have been quoted $530 for a front wheel assy and quoted $437 for a pair of front forks from FED EX. Any info on companies you have used would be very much appreciated.

Seems a bit steep for wheels !!!
I've only ever ordered small things from the States and the shipping/duty was cheep enough to make it worthwhile.

A seller in the states that i bought a complete rear wheel assembly from charged a very reasonable $90 including excellent standard of packaging via USPS.

Looking at the prices you've been quoted sense that it may be cheaper for the seller to arrange in the states?

You may want to try this site - www.interparcel.com which I found very easy to use - you only need to input the size/weight of the package. It then provides prices from various carriers and it's a "door to door" service as well.

Remember there is the import tax to consider - you could ask them to record as a "gift" on the decleration with a value of say $50 - worth considering unless you want to be propoerly protected on any insurance that may be included in the price - just hope no one from customs is reading this

be carefull what the seller wrights on the package, you will pay tax on the value he puts on the parcel but if he puts a realy low price on it and customs get suspicious they will open it and re value it

The prices you are quoting are way over the top. Getting stuff from the US is a minefield. I paid £67 for a new seat this week and when it was delivered I HAD to pay another £26 in tax to the courier. Last year I had a massive wooden crate with three exhausts in it shipped from California and paid no tax as the parts were not new ?
The seat cost $46 to ship fast , the crate with the pipes in cost $110 and was heavy ! A set of clocks cost $16.
