This is my early model Z650. I bought it four years ago as a project and its been in bits for most of the last 3 years. I have had a purge and its back together and on the road again....£1500 later.
I want it as near as possible to original spec and its not far away now.The reason for this post is that i need the bracket for the reflector on the back mudguard under the number plate. Have looked on Ebay for a while but no luck. Also i want rid of the horrible stainless brake hoses. I have a NOS hose for the top but need the 2 lower ones. Zpower want £90 which seems a lot and i am not sure if they would be original parts. The twin discs were fitted to the bike from new. Again everything on ebay except what I want. Are the brakes the same as Z1/A/B/Z900 ? so that i can widen my search.
The vinyl seat cover is over 30 years old and is still supple but has lost its "blackness". I have tried all manner of things from Halfords but wasted my money as its still the same. Is there anything other than "Hammerite" to get it black again !!! as a new cover is not an option.I know the seat looks okay in the picture but its not so good close up. Any ideas or info appreciated. Steve.

Brake pipes will be same as Z900 Z1000A1. Save a search for the reflector. Mine cost £12 :D

Absolutely beautiful bike by the way.

Don`t let the bogmen tell you any different

Steve,
this seller has some Z650 stuff on, might be worth sending a message;

Be careful what you use on the seat, don't make it too shiny/slippy.
Have you tried Armor All?

Lovely bike by the way!

Hi
Give Steve a call at Classic hoses 07853542739 , I paid £40 for both the top and bottom hose on a Z1 and they even have the replica part numbers on the rubber, he also does the replica steel pipes with the correct fittings.

ps the z650 for 1976/77 was the b1 and came with a single brake disk the outher side had a chrome cover over the bolt holes . i have the chrome cover . if its of intrest . they went double disk from the b2 modle and the brakes went from infront of the forks to behind shortly after that . from memory .

Thanks for the response and the compliments. Still plenty to do on the bike to get it how i want it but its getting there !
Paul : If I cant get some genuine hoses soon will give them a try.
Chris: Thanks for the info. I suspected that brakes were the same. Will try to get 900/1000 parts. I have the reflector but not the bracket for it.
Phil: Have dealt with Tania before via Ebay. Will check it out. Amour all is good but the vinyl has marks which it doesnt mask. Trying to get a NOS seat from USA at present.
Zedrider: If you have a bracket, send me a PM. The bike was fitted with twin discs from new which was a factory option costing £45. I have spoken to the first owner and he told me this and i am therefore happy to leave them on. I have never been sure if its B1 or B2. The bike has its factory paint which is B2 but the handbook under the seat says B1 ?

B1 means round M/cyl and calipers in front

B2 means triangular cylinder and calipers behind.

:D :D :D Thats it then. Its a B1. It was registered 1st August 1977 so I guess its one of the last ? I dug out an old magazine with B2 roadtest and there dont seem to be much difference between the models.
