heyup chaps
i think its a shame theres so much personal mudslinging on here and over what, which model is best. i mean come on guys good, bad or ugly we are talking about machines here. at the end of the day just a pile of metal bits chucked together on a japanese high speed production line not that different from nissan etc. there is no soul in a machine. no beating heart. its not a living creature or a pet. we shouldnt blur the line between man and machine.
just enjoy riding your bikes lads but dont get personal with eachother over nothing more than a nice looking pile of metal, plastik & rubber.

WALDORF: They aren’t half bad.
STATLER: Nope, they’re ALL bad!

STATLER: I wonder if there really is life on another planet.
WALDORF: Why do you care? You don’t have a life on this one?

You know what? I'd completely misread the membership page - I could have sworn it said the z650 was welcome, not z650 framed bikes being welcome. Now I feel really awkward. I've paid my membership and tried to contribute where I can, and I've had some incredibly helpful people get stuck in. I've enjoyed seeing other peoples projects and just talking about old Kawasakis, joined club nights and was even planning to ride in to the Ace on the 19th with the rest of the bikes from the forum, all on the understanding that I was (a small) part of the club. Now we've got Paul Doran spitting nuts and bolts about people mentioning other bikes, making it very clear that the z650 is in the same category, and I discover that he's got every right to make me feel so uncomfortable. Paul - what the hell do I do now? Quietly shuffle off?
Currently restoring a 78 z650
ok this is a z1 owners forum/club and for people who have z1's so does this mean that people who dont own a z1 but own a z1a or z1b or heaven forbid the black sheep of the bunch the z900 are not welcome either , as we all know there was only ever 1 model of z1 ,, maybe the name of the club should be changed then to z1/a/b/900 and nothing else owners club that would make for a long sticker eh

You can be a member here and ride a tricycle if you like. The only pre requisite is that you like the Z1.
As far as I see it it says that derivatives of the fabled superbike are able to be counted as qualifying for inclusion into the fold.
To me that includes any large bore Zed from the 70`s. As far as the 650 goes it led to larger bikes using the same engine design and was basically the first fresh thiking from Kawasaki since the Z1. All large Zeds were derived from the Z1 until the advent of water cooling. The 650 proved to the designers that the future lay in less heavy engine design being refined with greater understanding of metallurgy to improve combustion and engine speed, resulting in more power at greater revs than was possible before.
Stu, don`t worry about some opinions of your bike. Most here are interested in what you are doing and admire that you are doing it, warts and all, for us to see.
Last nights discussions had me in stitches at points, and there is no vitriol I am certain. I would willingly buy any member here a pint in the pub and I am sure at some point there may be a little piss taking.
But have you noticed that not one person will comment that they don`t like a bike that another member proudly displays here ?
Good reason. Piss take is piss take but when it comes to it..............we all like old bikes.
