Some underwriters for insurance wont cover q-plates, I moved from Carol Nash because of that. (oh yes and they tried to rip me off)

I just phoned HMRC and told them my bike was a UK barn find not an Eastern European Lada/Skoda or wotever...

They were very helpful..... They understand the NOVA system doesn't apply to barn finds ...(zeds in sheds) ...and are sending me another form to fill in and return.

They want a copy of the receipt for the bike and the dating cert from VJMC and will then "add it" to the "system"...After that I can ( apparently) send my MOT, Insurance, V55/5 etc back to DVLA and see wot they say.....

I'll keep u posted....

Update :
Any vehicle which is imported AND sold before 15 April 2013 does not have to be entered into the NOVA system. Instead the purchaser can send a completed form C & E 389 and invoice to this office. We will stamp and return these to the purchaser so they can then register the vehicle with DVLA.

Any vehicle which is imported before but sold after 15 April must be entered into the NOVA system. Sine 1 July, this also includes vehicles import under commodity code 9705. Please refer to Customs Information Paper (13) 41 which can be found at the following link to our website.

~Bugger. I bought mine June 20th !! ho hum.

I spoke to Kawasaki today. You now have to ask them for a dating cert BEFORE you ask RB, VJMC or anyone else.

Cost is £54.00 from Kawasaki UK..

Kawasaki say

"We may be able to provide a year of manufacture letter. This could confirm that the engine and frame number correlate to a machine that the factory produced in a particular year. The letter is in a format that the DVLA will accept as proof of age and can issue an age related number plate from. Please write in to the address at the bottom of this email, detailing the full engine and frame number of your machine and your daytime contact telephone number. There is a charge for this service, so please also enclose either a cheque or postal order made payable to Kawasaki Motors UK for £54.00. If we cannot match your details then we will write to you accordingly and return your payment."

Kawasaki UK, 1 Dukes Meadow, Millboard Road, Bourne End, SL8 5XF.

Success !

My Barn Find is registered.

The bike was issued with an "S" plate. I wanted an "R" but I'm not going to argue. I had no problem once I completed the NOVA registration form and HMRC were very helpful/efficient. Log book came back in a week... £54 for Kawasaki dating cert and £55 for registaration...(+ 6months tax) . Not really so bad... :o
