petrol tank

#1 PostAuthor: bakey » Mon Jun 08, 2009 3:16 pm

trying to get a tank that will fit my z900A4 please?

not sure if any will fit so any advice is also appreciated.

Had 2 tanks now and once ive got past the paint, they have both been full of filler having been dropped on the right side.

I will if i have to use the one already on the bike but that would take my bike off the road for however long it the job takes :(

also wondering has any got any tanks badges or the 900 DOHC side panel badges?

keep checking ebay but cant find any and wuold rather buy from a member in all honesty - well, certain members anyway :D

Word of warnin about reproduction decals - I ordered a tank badge, was told two weeks to delivery, waited eight weeks finally gave up and demanded my money back after being told they were two weeks away every two weeks.

Used z-power in the end.

Hi steve

no mate not dropped it. just after i bought it from you i got what i thought was a full paint set. My plan was to get it painted up, gather a few other shiny bits n pieces and then in one hit, take the bike in the garage, strip things off and put on the new replacements. I was then going to get the original paintset done in the diamond green for if i ever sold the bike.

from the paintset i bought i stripped the tank - dented, knackered, waste of cash  the RH panel also doesnt fit a 900

then paul doran (legend) gave me a tank to use instead. Same problem though, once stripped it had been dropped and is again full of filler. Paul was generous enough to give me it though and said he had no idea what was lurking underneath as it were!

Now my problem is that i already have 1 side panel painted and the spare tailpiece. I am getting a new RH side panel from the club but i have no spare tank.

I am basically left with taking the tank from the bike and at the mo its my only option. Only problem is that this will result in the bike being off the road for weeks, right in the middle of summer.

are the side panel badges the 900 double OHC ones mate or the Z900 ones?

Surely the tank can be pulled out.

I`ve seen my paint man use a weld on rod / puller system to remove the greatest amount of a dent which can then be bondo`d flat.

i took it into work today to see if any of the bentley old boys could do anything.

thing is, not many of the bentley old boys are left! the younger lads didnt appear too confident though. Strangest denting i have ever seen chris. Like it had been hammered not just dropped?

i am now watching that tank! cheers mick.

just to clear things up...for my mate paul :D

if it wasnt clear in my post...i have no worries, gripes, moans etc etc with paul and was certainly not trying to have a go at him.

All i was trying to do was explain why i needed a tank - to avoid using my own.

Paul gave me the tank for free (like i said) and told me he had no idea of the condition (like i said) so when i discovered it had also been dropped i thought it was a shame but i certainly wasnt angry.

I did not think that about the tank i bought - i was pissed off about that!

anyway paul, hope i didnt upset you too much :bawl

:D

Yes do, so that every time you go out on it, you will get people say, "you've got the wrong badges on that mate" :D
