DONT DO IT ! ! !

#1 PostAuthor: irhobotolo » Sun Mar 08, 2015 2:37 pm

Dont try to do a quick u - turn on a country lane on your Gee Pee Eleven unless you want the bike on top of you and ten motorists looking at you wondering if you are drunk while you wrestle the bike upright again.
It happened to me yesterday and I could have cried as soon as I had done it. Its probably the first time in about thirty years that I have " dropped " a bike so I cant realy complain but now I need to sort the damage out which to be fair is only cosmetic as I was almost stationary.

I need both indicators on the right side and a points / pickup cover which is cracked. The front brake lever is also damaged as is the mirror. I know its a tall order but parts need to be VGC as the bike was mint before yesterday.
Thanks in advance for any help or pointing me in the direction of parts to put the bike back to 100%.
Also if anyone has a NOS right thigh then that would also be appreciated.

Now that is one stunning looking bike, probably my favourite of all. Happy I got myself a Zed but one of those is seriously next on my list.

Thanks Paul.
I sat at the side of the road and could have cried looking at it.
The guy I bought it off last year kept it in his house and pampered it and its only had 2 owners from new and 15k miles. Its mostly original including the seat and paint and I am glad that it landed on me to save further damage to the bike !
There was some loose gravel on the road and the front wheel sliiped on it and once it started to slide I couldnt hold it up. I wont be doing it again
I sat at the side of the road thinking " where am I going to get the bits from now " :(

At about 80mph I couldnt quite make the turning I wanted so I had to go back. The sign was right on the junction. It wasnt a road that I know well and I wont be going back that way again.

Really sympathise !

I had similar experience in about 1980 doing a U turn in the middle of Matlock Bath whilst carrying a pillion.
- and embarrasingly had a huge audience.

You are not alone!!!

Sorry to hear of your mishap, I can fully understand how you felt at the time. At that moment you just can't help thinking "if only".

On the bright side though, at least when you buy parts, Jimmocks poem won't come to mind........or will it :(

I have seen both round and square type mirrors on B1s although I always thought they should be square. The ones on the bike are genuine Kawasaki so not sure if they are the ones it left the factory with ? If you know of any genuine square ones then let me know
