what shame. a gorgeous bike you will struggle to find a good match with touch up paint plus your eye will always be attracted to the scratch. bite the bullet + get it professionally air brushed or total repaint. there is a BMW motorcycle from the late 70s / 80s r100rt/ r100rs model that had a very close match. i think it was called braun which is German for brown + was a metallic colour. might be worth a trip to your local bmw motorcycle dealer or even car dealer as they sometimes use the same colours on the cars . you can buy it as a paint stick + it comes with a lacquer about £ 10

are brilliant, even if they do not list a colour they can often get it mixed up. Aerosol or touch up as you wish :)

I just has some Candy Super Red aerosol come through for a spare side panel I wanted to paint and it IS a very very good match :) ( my painting skills being the small difference)

I would give it to an airbrush artist. The paint is actually candy orange over a black and white design. So depending on how deep the scratch is, you will see white or black. An air brush with orange candy will do the trick but don't try to match the colour with 'flat' paint, it won't match. Of course.... your guy will have to get the balance of red/yellow pretty close, but he can match against the orange stripes - which are over the white base. A mix with clear built up in layers will give more control, and too much red quickly changes orange to red in successive coats.
Definitely try this before sending it off for a dodgy incorrect repro job.

Aclose match is not good enough really is it??? Richard at fx paints in Ormskirk will match it to perfection and he has the exact paint matches for the z1 range. Ive matched his paint against NOS we have and it is pefect. I will post his number later for you.

Well. each to their own Gez, but the original process was black and white base coats, silver flake, 2 or 3 coats of candy orange, then another 3-4 coats of clear. If Kawasaki could have achieved the same effect with a one coat process, then why didn't they?

Maybe cos the paint technology that exists now - did not exist back then ?

Kawasaki certainly came up with some stunning colours, but the quality of the paint they used was shite. They faded and changed colour very quickly in many cases.

Custom paint has also evolved and the same techniques used by Kawasaki are still being used today by top sprayers doing custom jobs for good reason.
It's not my bike but I would try to restore the paint using the original method. Colour is only one aspect. The way the paint reflects light is another thing and a different material will therefore stand out. Once you put touch up on, you can't take it off.

Richie at FX has done a couple of paintjobs for me and his matches were always spot on!.

Just stating facts and not comenting on Anyones ability or paint jobs. I don't know anything about the paint on the A4. Was that also done with candy over flake?

From memory 'Diamond Dark Green' (the A4 colour) is a black basecoat with several coats of clear/pearl laquer which is used to carry the green pigment.

He uses the original process and has spent a long time perfecting it.So just to clarify he does not use just one paint colour!!!!!
