Odiham Trackday ARD

#1 PostAuthor: Al » Sun Apr 19, 2015 8:36 pm

Went up to the Airfield with Brian 1100.
Caught sight of these.

Errrrrr!

Image

Very tidy but a few problems throwing oil all over the floor

Image

Last time i saw this today it was spinning 360's on its foot peg in the middle of the runway with the rider still aboard comedy style.
I was transfixed and nearly run the marshall over :D

Image

The RG detonated precisely 200 yards into the first session.
Felt really sorry for the guy, he'd spent all winter rebuilding and just got it back from the dyno.
He was parked next to us and was inconsolable as he was pulling bits of piston out of the airbox. Poor sod.

Image

Recognise these two cheeky chappies?

Image

Cant help meself.
This has been Peter Fondas' chop recently but now doubling as a streetfighter.

Image

Anglesey next, cant flippin wait.

Great pics, the two Zeds next to each other look super , just up my street ! Interesting to see the difference between the two of them , the 1100r looks very long and low parked next to your J . Did it handle with the new back end ?

Thanks freddy and just for you.

Last year the 1100 was taller and bigger looking but it was jacked up a bit where mine was more compressed.
This year we seem to have reversed and the 11 looks like a more compact tidy package and mine has gone all spaced apart.
I would like to say that the changes i made had worked out well first time but thats not the case.
I thought that since i had raised the back it would be OK to bring the compressed / lowered front back up.
No!
It was so cold yesterday that no-one could get any heat into they're tyres and i was finding this a problem, that with an instability issue i couldn't read the tyres to tell me where it was coming from.
It was a long day with some very long pauses as people went off to hospital but i used that time to fix various things and to lower the front end which proved to be an improvement although we ran out of time to assess the changes.
Bottom line is; some relatively minor changes can have a very significant impact but all is not lost because its' all still adjustable and its a question of tinkering to get the best compromise.
Before i forget; thanks must go to 'push my bike please Brian' again for getting me up and running on a few occasions when the alternator came right off the end of the crank!!

Thank you both. Odiham is a night mare for me. There is a half mile runway and the mix is 99% state of the art modern bikes and 1% crusty rusty's.
Even in my group (novice beginners) people will insist on overtaking me all the time, even the girls
Brian however in the inters, (middle group) doesnt seem to suffer from this and maybe he has some vid.
The classic bike trackdays' run events are an entirely different matter with similarly capable bikes and i may get some vid at Anglesey, we'll see.

Phil we were typing at the same time.
Brian is in Tutti Frutti at the moment maybe he'll give an update on his return.
Yes youre right i blamed the track the bike the other riders, everything apart from me.
Yesterday there were two serious injuries and both broke collar bones.
I have read today that one of these guys was a first timer and he was taken off by a much more experienced rider.
The police were called in and we had to wait an hour or two whilst they conducted an investigation.
They also brought in an external ambulance even though we had our own sets.
I also read today of another rider who was run into in the fast group.
Protagonist broke the lever off the apparently innocent parties bike and injured his knee as the two bikes locked together in a corner.
Guilty party did not come forward in the paddock to apologise or enquire about welfare or costs!!!!!!!!!!!

Might have to fit some spoke chopping, spinning stars to my axles, Ben Hur style for future events.

Only took one video on the day.
Running without an alternator this year, which gives the advantage of making the bike rev quicker. On a negative side, I couldn't run my heated grips and I could have done with them on the day. It was still only about 6 Celcius on the first session.
