Kawasaki 650 Triple - August Ride Out

Hiya Guyz,
BONGO and I both live in Staffordshire so we thought it might be nice to get our bikes together for a ride out. We met at Cannock Chase (local beauty spot near Shugborough Hall) and took this picture of the machines together at the nearby village of Brocton. Amazing the difference between two bikes which started out so similar.

Then we had a good ride over the Chase to a local bike meet at the Bradford Arms Pub on the A5 (Monday nghts). Stopped off en route for a snap by the old village gas station -

The weather stayed dry, but as you can see from the pics it was pretty cloudy, which has been the story of our summer so far.

Image

When we got to the meet we were joined by yet another Z650 - how common are we?

Image

So the guys at the meet got to see the best line up of 650s we have had there in a while.

Hope you big Zed lovers enjoy the pics.

All the best from Mark & Dave

Cheers Guyz,
I was going to see if Steve from Sutton could have joined us on his stock red B model - but the weather has been so dodgy recently I have lost a bit of confidence in arranging anything

Here's hoping for a better Sept & Oct before they all get SORNed again

I'm intrigued by the front calipers though. My Suzukis have the caliper mounted on the front of the fork, whilst my 900R ( and most current bikes ) fit it behind.
Interesting that it seems to have been switched mid-way through production of these Z650s.

Cheers Lads,
Rhencullen - the Z650 was launched in late 1976 as the B1 model. The B2 came out in 1978 and amongst the changes were a new tamper proof brake master cylinder and calipers switched to behind the front forks. This happened across the whole Kawa range that year... and they have stayed behind the fork leg ever since.

So it is only Z1000 A1 and Z650 B1 that were fitted with the early Z1 style caliper.
