Some inspiration for us there with our summer on its way, apparently.
You know its summer in the UK because the rain is warmer.

Actually I think this has been one of the worst starts to the year I can remember. As I type there is still snow on the hills looking out of my window. Bearing in mind they are a mere 350 feet above sea level.

Your winter I believe can be more like our autumn which is my preferred time of year. What I personally couldn't cope with is the 40 degrees as reported in some parts of Aus this year.

I hope you were able to cope with the problems that causes and no I am not being sarcastic. We have seen reports of severe dust storms, drought and bush fires.

How does the intense heat of summer affect daily life for you out there?

Honestly, Chris it takes a bit of getting used to, that's for sure.

Daily life is no drama with the heat although everyone needs to be very fire conscious. Here in WA we have some major issues from time to time and the temperatures really soar. We had the hottest summer here for over fifty years in 2012/2013 and I seem to recall we had seven consecutive days over 40 degrees. Air con is a must at home, in the car and at work. Winter nights can genuinely be a bit parky but no central heating here in WA. All joking apart it would be a real boost if we did.

The heat and UV creates some issues riding wise. I did 60 miles today on my DR650 wearing just jeans and a t shirt. My forearms currently have a crimson throbbing glow that will fade over a couple of days. I then met another mate for a GSX1400 ride and there was no choice but leather up. It was a bit warm at first but the magic vents did their job. The temparature now is much better than mid Summer. It is more enjoyable and the UV is a bit less. The Kwaks also like it a bit cooler for sure.

We also have roo dramas fairly regularly. I was out with a Scottish mate on Friday at dusk and I flew past a four footer that then jumped out on my mate. It fell over it's feet in panic and he locked up the front only to skid over it's tail. He was well shook up I can tell you. Snakes can be a drama also. Today I saw a 1.5 metre Western Tiger snake on the road that may well have killed me if it had tagged me as I fanged past. That said, I have only seen maybe six snakes like that on the road since moving here in 2004 but I suppose one would be enough if it got you. I did see a tiger snake rearing up on all the riders ahead of me once and I gave it a wide berth as a result. They can get narky as buggery with noise and vibration so riders beware.

All in all it is mint here. I have ridden about 700 miles over the last four days, eaten a lot of pies and dribbled a lot of shit over cups of tea. It really is the lucky country. I always say that a summers day in the UK with great mates is hard to beat but we have the edge weather wise here without a doubt. I am also lucky that my home town has a solid crew of Zed heads so no complaints from this red armed ex-pat Pom!

I thank you for the comprehensive reply. I now understand more of a bikers life in Aus.

You have my sympathies

This is a recent quote from something I read recently about living in Australia I found it extremely funny

"This is despite the fact that practically every living creature here can kill you in under three minutes. Our primary spoken language is screaming."

just thought I would randomly share it
