Challenging Times :)

Hi all

I promise not to make a habit of this :)

To cut a very long story, very short, at the age of 34 I had a heart attack, then after many years of angina I had a triple heart bypass at the age of 51. The operation was successful, highly successful in fact.

At the age of 52 I walked up Ben Nevis for charity, and raised £2,840 for the NSPCC. Hardest thing I ever did and thinking about it now, probably the stupidest. It nearly killed me!!

After more practice, I walked up it again at 53, and tried Snowdon at 54 (Weather beat me on that one). I have also scaled Kinder Scout quite a few times, Mam Tor, Ben Wyvis, and the Fyrish monument.

Now at the tender age of 56, I (along with my son, daughter and their spouses) am going to attempt the three peaks challenge, again for the NSPCC.

The Challenge

On Monday 6th June we will be scaling Snowdon, hoping for reasonable weather this time. Last time we attempted it a Ranger turned us back because it was dangerous. Tuesday will be travelling up to Wasdale.

On Wednesday 8th June we will be scaling Scafell Pike, the first time for all of us, so we have no idea what to expect. Thursday travelling up to Fort William.

On Friday 10th we take on Ben Nevis again. Now we know exactly what that entails, a long hard slog up followed by a quad killer descent :)

As I said earlier, I am not going to make a habit of this. This is my second and will probably be the last time ever to ask for charitable donations, so pop along to the Just Giving page and help if you can.

My son Robert is doing this challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support if you prefer that charity.

Cheers all, and many thanks for the donation Padders.

I'll keep updates coming, even if I'm half way up Nevis lying on my back desperately trying to get my lungs to work :D

One down (Or up if you like) and two to go.

Snowdon's peak in the near distance.

The temperature was 23C on the ground and 24C on the summit!!

I'm really not fit enough to do this stuff, so a lot of it was pure determination :) (too stubborn to fail)

Driving 1010 miles didn't help - but what a week. I won't be forgetting that for a while

Nice one, excellent achievement. I bet the views were stunning from the summit on a clear day.

Cheers lads

The views from Snowdon ans Scafell were awesome, and from Nevis you could see several feet in most directions. I'll get some pics on photobuckete later.

Thanks Mick, that's much appreciated :)
