One way to get the lad off the bloody computer

#1 PostAuthor: Is Vic There » Mon Oct 19, 2015 10:21 pm

Righto Gents,

I was getting fed up with my lad spending all weekend on his computer, it was getting to the point that I didn't have anything to say to him, nowt in common!

So when this came up on Facebook I thought stuff it that's a project!

The plan is to do her up and it will be his first car, first job was to sort out all the spares and give her a good clean, take off the additional fitments that had been fitted in the past 50 odd years and go from there!

How we bought it!

And then a bit of a wash down!

Plan is to take the bodywork off this Saturday, I only want to work on it on a Saturday morning, anymore will be too much, just want to try and keep him keen!

Anyone have any experience on these or any suggestions appreciated!

Its a 2a Mick, got the original petrol engine and box in, also came with a spare of each, if you have a look in the racking there's a pallet with loads of spares on it!

Back in work Saturday, going to take the body off!

Well, this morning didn't start to well with the lad saying he was sick! I made him come with me and after an hour he turned round and thanked me for making him! I was made up with that!

Four hours in and we'd done what we wanted!

The most important thing is we'd had a great talk and a laugh, can't do that on a computer!

Well he named him "Bullet" due to finding a shell case!

That's this weekends job Jim, bulkhead removal!
Picked up a spare engine yesterday, also been reading a few forums and gaining valuable knowledge, looking forward to the rebuild!

I'll have a read of that tonight, won't be putting a V8 in it, kids can drive at 15 over here so a 50 year old 2.25 Petrol will do for the time being :D

Had another great day on the Landy, very impressed with my lad, first thing he did was to go to the tool box and get all the 7/16 1/2 9/16 5/8 spanners and sockets we needed, then I showed him what needed to come off and he got to it!

I tackled the ugly box section fence post that had been welded to the front part of the chassis, first I took the bolt on steering damper off and cut out the box section that must have been to mount spotlights, easy job with a cutting disc! Then the box section, now this took a few hours due to the position and the size of the grinder I was using, in the end we managed to get it off. It uncovered that the chassis was split, I thing that originally they had bolted the steering damper through the chassis this has put to much stress on it and its eventually split near the bolt holes.

This is a picture of my lad just finishing off the fire wall, just need to get it blasted this week and then its off for repair!

Engine and box out next week!

isnt it great to have a 4 wheeled vehicle that you CAN take apart. Excellent work showing the lad what fun can be gained by getting stuck in Vic.

Another great Saturday morning working on the 2a, great to spend time with my lad, he's getting well into it as well.

Took the engine and box out, gave them a good steam clean ready for stripping in the next few weeks.

Also gave the chassis a good degrease and steam clean, very happy with the progress so far.

Next week we'll tray and get all the ancillaries removed from the chassis and get it off to the sand blasters ready for the Ho Har's to repair it.

Really enjoying this project so far.
