I watched a good programme on last night about Jaguar building 6 more E-Type Superlights to bring the number up to the twelve there was originally supposed to be. (C4 with Mark Evans)

Wow. They are works of art.

I couldn't believe the snobbery involved against them either from the likes of Lord March, even though they are bonafide Jaguars made in the Jaguar factory.

Keep an eye out for it. Well worth seeing.

There was supposed to be 18. They made 12 originally and are going to use the chassis no's from the 6 they didn't make for the 6 new ones. Interesting that Brooklands won't be allowing the new ones entry to any of their events and called the new ones replica's!

As beautiful as the new ones are, did the originals have such attention to detail such as nine coats of paint? What engine was fitted. didn't look original E-Type?
Can you imagine Kawasaki doing 6-off new Z1's? Would they have sh*t paintwork and micron thick chrome like the originals? Don't think so.
As much as these cars are beautiful they are no more than a modern day replica. Be nice to have one though

Well If I had a spare mill going and got my hands on one of those beauties, made to the same design using the same materials and tooling in the same factory with the same badge. And we were down the pub. And you said REPLICA to my face. There would be an argument which would degenerate into handbags outside, in the car park. Nowhere near my genuine, albeit brand new E-Type Superlight I hasten to add!

I'd prefer the replica version as I'd be less scared (slightly) to drive it than an original - and the new one should be more reliable. Whatever, they are all superb

watched it this morning , twosides to every story , maybe the owners of the first 12 supers dont like the idea of the remaining 6 being built as it will devalue theirs , as it make's their car less rare . the next 6 supers are built at jaguar , got the last 6 supers numbers , 40 grand for a paint job !!!! enjoyed it very much , skilled craftsmen at work . thinking about getting the queens suitcase maker to make me a suitcase with a kawasaki logo on for me hols , cheers marlin

Good programme but I find the way the super-rich are treated to be slightly sickening. All that fauning attention to how deep the recess should be in the special box for the bespoke watch (3 guys worrying that it wasn't deep enough). Are billionaires retarded or something? If they are, how do they become billionaires in the first place?
And the orange peel on those suitcases was worse than a Ford Cotina circa 1979.

Very interesting programme, not sure what to make of it really.
Pretty sure the 'originals' didnt have matching luggage so i would be inclined to say that these are not as originally intended.

Like Al, I thought it was an interesting programme, but felt a little confused by it.

I'm not going to criticise the making of the car itself, as it was beautiful. Didn't talk much about the engine, though (or maybe I fell asleep through that bit). And I'm not sure about making a car so perfect that it can't be raced in anger anywhere - that was not the point of the originals. If you want the car to be used in anger, don't put a forty grand paint job on it. Perhaps, deep down, Jaguar are perfectly happy for them hardly to get used at all. They admitted that it is basically a marketing exercise to the well-heeled.

I hope the six people they chose as customers will actually drive the things, not hide them away in a garage with a load of other unused cars.

And all this bollocks about Goodwood being too snooty to allow them to run. OF COURSE they won't be able to run at the Revival - that is for old cars that could have, and in many cases did, actually run at Goodwood back in the day. If they are good enough to get FIA Historic Technical Passports, then they can race at other events - although I kind-of doubt that they will be.
