Got my new toy, Thanks Spence, top man.

I've loved the GS1000 since I had an early fluted tank model when I was a kid and always wanted another.

Which way to go - restore fully, tidy up as it is, Wes Cooley replica or modern running gear etc?

I've got a lovely GSX1000 sz katana engine with a flowed head that will go straight in that complete with big carbs, strong motor. Just put a newly built 1170 in the reason for the 1000 sitting on the bench :D

Totally agree my mate just flogged one earlier this year, they are out there, this one was, tricked carbs and played with engine, harris exhaust with a small hole underneath, so I gets on it and fires it up to just nip down to ours to patch said pipe, as I pulled out into the road I carefully wound it up bloody hell it pulled like a train loads of donkeys in there, took me back to when I used to work at mockie world, got home tears streaming no visor down it was one of those rare 10 minuet rides you can never do again big hairy assed engine like Taffus says just cane it a few times then you'll know what to do it :D :D :D

Oh great, I've bought a GS that's mostly all there, I think, no big expenditure, I think, then you come along with "I've got a big motor for that" :??

Sorely tempted, but I like the 8 valve GS motor, so I'm leaning towards keeping it that way.

PM me a price though.

Can any GS1000 experts on here tell me what the difference is between the early slide carb head and the 1980 onwards CV carb head?

Is the inlet tract bigger on the CV model, or was it just a change of the inlet rubbers.

I know the valves are the same part number, so that didn't change.

The early model was 26mm slides and I think the CVs were 34mm.

Thank you

Another question guys, please.

Do the airboxes differ between the 78, 79 and 80 models?

i.e. is it just the rubbers that change?

Early ones, with the fluted tank, seem to have black air boxes with no covers, but they otherwise look the same, did they just add chrome bling to the same airbox?

Cheers guys, not Z related I know, but I also know there are others on here who are into the big fours of yesteryear, as I am.
