perishing rubber on diesel pumps

thought i would ask here because of the abundant wisdom. my diesel car is on its 4th rubber diesel pump, its the hand primer and they keep perishing. this cant be normal surely. is there a better type of priming pump? thanks in hope of help.

Cant say I have seen any perish.But have seen a few that mice have chewed through.

My old Foutrak needs a replacement primer/pump.... where the filter was fitted..... but I got a secondhand one in the end for £25

been having same probs with rubber pipes at work,fuel delivery/return & leak offs.
started using viton about 3yrs ago,so far so good.
could be wrong but think the marine industry were using viton before auto,so good chance of finding something down ere;)
