Nothing like on the scale of Somerset or the Thames Valley this was Monday and is part of the ward I represent as a District Councillor.

http://www.leightonbuzzardonline.co.uk/ ... -1-5858166

It always floods here but this year is particularly bad. The fire brigade were called and spent the day pumping which has sorted the problem for now.
Longer term the drainage channel which was piped some years ago has over time suffered due to tree roots. Years of complaints to the council and Anglian Water has fallen on deaf ears.
Incidentally a planning application for 9 homes just to the rear of these gardens will be decided next Monday.

I think the days of living next to the water are on borrowed time.

I can see the day very soon where ALL these "water side developements" will be worth NOTHING.
All the old docklands, marinas, riverside developements etc etc.

People will be backing off from the water very soon. Just wait and see!!!

Houses on hills will be worth what some of these hideous waterside appartments are worth.

its extreme here, like a survival mission just going outside. as i said in an earlier post i nearly lost my car in a flood last week, im still drying it out now. A bus blew over the other day, huge holes appearing everywhere, trains down, buses blowing over. the strongest winds on the scale forecast for the next few days with a months worth of rain in 3 days. its crazy stuff.

When I read the bit about a youth hostel, I got a flash back!!

I used to do the hillwalking thing too.

Many years ago in a Hostel in Glencoe (we were doing Ben Nevis).............

I was having a pee in the urinal.

Some one had wrote on the wall...

"We English wash our hands after a pish".

Underneath I wrote.....

"We Scots don't pish on our fingers" !! :hys

FLOODS

#14 PostAuthor: gpjes » Sat Feb 15, 2014 9:39 am

My heart goes out to all these poor souls, nov2000 it had rained hard for 2 weeks, lived in a bungalow river aire rose up 27 ft washed us all out of house and home you can't hold it back or stop it, it is absolutely soul destroying I know in my heart of hearts where the blame lies and only now as usual is something been done albeit too late! I,ve always from being in my early twentys worked with water, please correct me if I,m wrong but surely addressing the problem at source would be a solution ie dredging our rivers improving flow, oh there you go we used to have a department who did that not perfectly but, better than it is now.
So feel free to pass this this on, not everybody knows this, but in this day and age should. When the situation ceases, do not under any circumstances accept a loss adjuster appointed by your insurance company, no matter what bull they say, it is your god given right to appoint your own loss adjuster who will work for You, NOT the insurance company, whether it is flood, fire, or theft, I only found this out after I,d been made to feel like a criminal, we'ed never claimed in 15 years of owning properties, but that's what it felt like. Hope this helps some you out, been there and really did not want it to happen!!!!!
