Every year at Kelmarsh Hall in Northants,
English Heritage have a 'Festival of History' Day,
They have battle reenactment's during the day,
the highlight for me being the Spitfire's and Messer. BF109's in a dogfight.
It is such a realistic display!!
The explosions are as close as you'd get to the real
thing. Unless of course you were in a real war
situation.

If you ever get the chance to go to this Gordon,
I highly recommend it!!

How did the pilot ever see what was ahead of him? I seems the cockpit is mostly lower than the engine cowling, particularly on take off!

That was a problem with a lot of WW2 aircraft, including the Spitfire.
If you watch the video at about 4.50 as he is coming in to land, the plane is flying a curve until the last few seconds before touchdown, when the pilot straightens up for landing. This was to give him a view of the runway/landing point which would have been blocked by the engine on a straight in approach.

Sounds like a great event, I usually like to go to Duxford to the Flying Legends event, that is a fantastic event, piston engine planes only,
unfortunately, I hav"nt been able to get there last 2 years

Hi, Its the cold war planes that do it for me.
The English Electric Lightning. There is a guy in South Africa that still flys them, although he had one crash last year.
A chap in our office is the secretary of the local restoration group for a Vulcan Bomber held at Southend Airport. Can be seen on Google Maps on the out field.
