What was the engine like when you got in to it ?
Are parts more readily available for the GT than the Z1?

I know, I've let myself down but, worse still, I've let the club down...

This was a relatively 'lite' resto in mechanical terms: motor and carbs had been done for the previous owner - still on 'running in' regime. But, as ever, there was a ton of incorrect detail and finishes to remedy.

A real luxury not doing the engine mechanicals: I could get used to that!!

Am I right in thinking that the model you have there is the cooking version and therefore only with about 60hp?
My B model had the full fat 70hp and was a joy to ride, once I had the correct gearing.
I would love to check out your bike and see if it has the tick over sorted. A common problem on these bikes which in my case was I believe down to knackered crank seals. Only really a problem when trickling through town it was fine once it was thrashed though the gears. Which as we all know is the default position for a stroker

"Cooking version"... how very dare you!!

The J,K, and L models had a heady 67 bhp, which then increased to an eyeball-squidging 70bhp for the M,A,B models. Low gearing on the L helps make it a little more perky though... relatively speaking

No carb or crank seal probs I'm glad to say: ticks over merrily at 1000rpm once warm and doesn't 'hunt' on throttle roll-off like so many do.

But a Zed it will never be...
