Point to Ponder.

#1 PostAuthor: Aztec Warrior » Sat Jun 20, 2015 6:43 am

Getting lost trying to solve this issue.
The B/W feed wire to the points is shorting to earth as soon as the gap closes.
I just cant solve this one, yet, three sessions so far. I've missed something somewhere.

R/W to + Coil OK
B/R to - Coil OK
12v at coil and plug cap.
Capacitor OK

When points close they are supposed to short to earth/frame, its when they open the field in the coil secondary collapses and discharges through the spark plug to earth..Paul J

Indeed. And getting one's bonce around that, and the anomalies of earth, ground, feed and return circuits makes for much tea making these past few days....
Add to this the vagaries' of the Indian wiring diagrams, which are all slightly different, depending on which part of the world your Bullet is destined for, all adds up to much head scratching.. :??
Anyhow, it's 11am and I've done the old 'dodge and by-passed the offending bits and wired direct from the coil negative to the points, and all is well it seems, with a tell tale 'click' at the gap, a jolt through my arm from the ht confirms a good spark and the ammeter deflecting nicely.
Appears that the errant wire I was putting to the points, even though it's in the right place and looks to be correct, but is not actually a B/Red, is not the ignition wire. So confusing, makes the ST look positively simple in comparison... :)
Getting there, but just like the cricket, rain stops play...
Cheers
