had a xt500 year's ago , good fun , as been mention before bit tricky to start , nearly went over the bars a few times , after that had a yz 490 on the road , NOW THAT WAS FUN !!!!!!!!!!! , been looking at getting another but like alot of things they get to a certain age and become a " CLASSIC " and the prices go mental as we all know on here riding older bikes , cheers marlin

Been getting the bike ready for the MOT, this coming Thursday afternoon.......
Fitted a front fender.... was supposedly orange
...... but only £15 delivered.
Also got a "legal" number plate off eBay.... only £5.95 delivered
I think thats big enuff
I've got hold of the proper front wheel now - conical hub - and will swap it around after the MOT..... I've cleaned up the magnesium brake plate...
Cleaned the carb out - there was a bit of fluff stuck in the main jet (#240) which was causing it to bog down over 1/3 throttle.
And got some little essentials .......
Took it out for a quick spin and she runs great - well chuffed with this old TT

There is a guy in Derby that sell a lot of repro TT stuff and parts.....
I bough this import from him
Still needs finishing though.....

I could not start it at all!! as in never!
Cody ,one of the" mericans" could start it first time every time and my mate Al was pretty good at it as well!
The "Bastar* nearly broke my leg!!
Luckily I've had a few old Thumpers over the years..... This one started 1st time Sunday morning - but took a dozen or more Saturday

If you align the cam marker in the window then kick firmly and hold the kicker at the bottom of the stroke, it can't kick-back as the pawl releases

These motors are a relatively high 10:1 compression

I love the fact that its 6v, n battery to fuss over & running points which I intend to keep

ROB.... thats well nice

As it was sort of Sunny - and nearly not-frozen today, I spent some time in the garage today.......
Changed the oil & filter - cleaned the inner sump gauze filter - the lower frame gauze filter - used genuine Yamaha parts
Gonna stick with the points as it runs real well & starts 1st/2nd kick.....
The clutch casing needed to come off because I wanted to change the anti-sump valve. It was stuck fast, and as it's MAGNESIUM it took a good half hour to ease off without fookin' it up !!!!
Another thing was to change the head feed from the old type thin pipe to the rear of the head into the inlet cam - to a twin feed at the end of the cams. A similar change of cam feed was used by later XT & SR500's.
Running it with good old Morris "Golden Film" 20w/50

TT500 brake switch
Hey piggy, I am struggling to see how the rear brake light switch fits on my TT. As its an import and not road legal I have bought a repro switch. I think I need bracket too. Any chance of posting a few piccies of the switch connection and mounting on yours? Cheeers....... Rob

Here you go....

Just a little bracket

That shiny bit above the switch is a heat shield to stop my replacement airbox melting (again)

Went out on the first proper (fully legal) blast for 45 mins today
