Surely it should be.........Yam Yam???

That is the same motor as the SR500, I believe??

Oil in frame, dry sump??

Nearly right - you old tease  The SR has the same motor as the XT/TT, as the SR was produced a couple of years after the first XT/TT's :!:

Wow Piggy! That's a peach.

Got a real soft spot for those TTs and that's a lovely unmolested one.

What are your plans for it?
Be a hoot to take it for a blast round a track & roost some modern bikes eh?

I've got a close relation to yours - a '78 HL

Those engines rock :D

SR has got electronic ignition and 12V alternator. XT/TT has got points and 6V alternator.

Also SR (48T-model) has got hardened rockers, whereas SR (2J4) and XT/TT have plated rockers. 76 to 77 or 78 XTs also have a different crank with bigger crank webs and a unique piston, which is a tad heavier than on later models.

Cheers
Greg

Had chance to have a play this morning...... and she's a BEAUTY :P

Removed the front muddy - its a posh RICKMAN fiberglass jobby, but not right, so I'll get aproper Moto-X effort next week.

It's even got the original exhaust & rear shox too !!!!

Magnesium casings and hubs....

Puls matching numbers & it's a genuine early TT. And it only took me a couple of dozen kicks to start it

Well chuffed with it :hoo

Starting a big single is like learning to shave, you do it carefully and you learn quick otherwise it hurts like hell. In a former life as a nine and a half stone sprat I did a couple of seasons of Moto X on a Mugen tuned JBR H**** XR500 and once went over the bars in full view of the crowd having stalled at the bottom hairpin before a climb. Image

Wow Piggy - you scored a homerun there!
That's as good as they come - so nice seeing an unrestored one.
Did you get it from that guy in Hampshire that imports them?

Thank god you took that front fender off....

Here's my '78.
I've had it for a while & intend doing a very sympathetic resto as its so original it shouldn't be overdone....plus I don't want to lose its patina.
This is a pic before I started taking bits off it.

Had a 79 a while back which was phenomenal. Fully restored and so fast. Here's a couple of pics from Classic Dirt Bike with Vic Allen testing it.

You gonna get yours out on the dirt?

Holeshot, No - I won't be using it on the dirt in anger  Maybe the odd green lane :!: I got it from a chap in Wales who owned it for 15yrs since it was imported in 1998.

Phil - I've had several large singles... XL500R, XL600R, ZR350R, DR600 - so hopefully avoid any kick-backs :?? One trick is to keep the kickstart down for a few seconds once its started so the pawl releases and makes it safer  I just have to learn its peculiarities - bit like a woman :??

I only ever did it once! as I say you learn quick. If I could add any bike to my garage it would be the JBR. It was built in 81/82? by John Banks Racing for Wayne Le Marquand who won the Haynes 4 stroke Moto X British Championship on it. F##k me was it quick, As you can see in the photo, I made the hole shot in every race I ever started but never won which tells you alot about pilot error! I'm not sure what happened to it but one story is that it was destroyed in a shed fire. (Hmmm.. Allegedly) but thats another story.

Phil.

Engine runs real sweet & quiet. It is road reg (on an "R" plate) but been off the road since 2002, so got it booked in for an MOT in a couple of weeks - got some time off.
