It appears to be fixed. To make a rather long story a bit shorter, I had a burned coil that had probably been going bad and causing some issues. I put a new set of Dyna 3ohm coils on, but without the WG coil mod just to eliminate a factor. No joy on 2+3, 1+4 fired OK. Turned out I also had a malfunc...

I am quite upset about this :spit and feel as if I am eing tortured for some reason. I did the WBcarbs fix, and went for a test ride Sunday. Everything was going swimmingly :sf and life was good. THEN at about 25 miles I had some rough running and assumed the plug was fouling again :grr so I turned ...

New solid state voltage regulator/rectifier is on and apparently working properly. I measured the volatge to each coil, both right at 9.8 volts, a little light. I would be OK with 11, but I am not OK with less then 10. So..I am now in the middle of the suggested fix from WGCarbs, the Wired George cu...

Sorry...some clatter from #1 and #2 prior to the valve shims being put right. The clatter is now gone. I am running individual K+N filter pods, good as new, clean and tight. I have brand new Dyna 7mm copper core non-supression wires. They are not of equal length, the last set, Accels, were not of eq...

Update, although no joy as of yet. I can't find my voltage meter so that will have to wait till tommorrow at best. I did order however, a solid state replacement for the voltage regulator and rectifier from Z1 Enterprises and have yet to install it. Figured now is as good a time as any considering t...

OK, sooty #4 plug did not follow the coil. The plug is sooty and fouled again. The other plugs look good in comparison but do look a bit rich. My guess is a carb rebuild? Any information from the experts? I have run the same settings for years so there has not been a change of mains or anything rece...

OK, coils changed from side to side. All connections checked and found to be good. (I have not yet checked voltage to coils by the way) Went for a ride to check things out with brand spanking new spark plugs. Went on my way to the H#$%a shop to have my bike inspected since I need to get my tags rene...

I bolted a set of Koni's with progressivley wound springs on them and ajustable preload back in 86 or 87, well somewhere in that range anyhow  and I ain't looked back yet. Those and Progressive Suspension fork springs with 20 weight PJ1 fork oil. Works a charm for any riding I have ever done. ...

Sooty Plug on #4
So, I adjust the valves on the Z1A, they are now at 6,6,6,and 7 on the exhaust, 5,5,5,and 6 on the intake. I have brand new Iridium NGK plugs. The valves were way off prior to the shim job by the way. I go for a ride today, WOW, like a new bike. Very lively and responsive, great roll on acceleration...
