What Black - same for '73 Z1?

Hi

Picked up this thread on black finish for Z1B. Would like to ask if this would be the same for a 1973 Z1?

Also what finish for the black tail light mounting bracket?

Many Thanks

GPz900A1 tacho/voltmeter

Thanks to Is Vic There and chrispydick, I got the carbs back in and all the diligent work on the jets has paid off. An oil and filter change, coolant change and she fired up first hit on the button - not too bad after sitting for more than 22 years (a sin I know but trying to redeem myself)! However...

Job done! But geezzz what a mission. Rolling back the air box rubbers worked a treat - it was trying to get those spring rings back in place that took the time - combination of tired fingers, thin piece of wood with contour filed in the end and gentle persuasion with a screw driver. Now that I've do...

GPz900A1 installing carbs

Finally got all hydraulics working on the GPz900 and managed to get carbs out to clean jets and bowls but darned if I can get the pesky blighters back in between engine manifolds and air box. I seem to recall a similar posting with tips on solving this but can't find it now that I need it!!

Most of the feed line is metal pipe but will strip it back to the slave unit and check the hoses at each end - might as well check if the slave cylinder piston is stuck as that is what has happened to the disc calipers.

GPz clutch hydraulics

Taking a break from working on the Z1 and trying to get my '84 GPz900 going (also after many years in storage). No pressure at the clutch lever so presumed master cylinder gunked up - have installed repair kit (old piston and cups didn't look too bad) but still can't get any presure from the master ...

Thanks z2.john but I ran out of courage to put the label to the knife. Used the PVC pipe cover and it has come up pretty good. Will post some photos eventually when I learn how to master the technology.

Z1 label on headstock

I've committed to getting the Z1 frame repainted but don't want to stuff up the manufacturers label on the headstrock. I saw on one of the members restorations that the label was covered with a section of PVC pipe of the same radius. Have made up a similar cover but was wondering if anyone has succe...

It took a while and several bent/broken wire strands but eventually got it cleared. Many thanks z1bman as this worked much better than the soft fuse wire I had been stuffing around with.

'73 Z1 Master Cylinder

I have finally got the master cuylinder disassembled (very gunked up piston) ready for a repair kit. I can't get the relief port cleared and resisting putting a fine drill bit into it as not sure what diameter the final hole is - looks tiny on the schematic drawing in the workshop manual - any advic...

'73 Z1 Caliper

The various threads on caliper restoration are very helpful - many thanks. Have finally managed to fully disassemble mine but before stripping and painting I was wondering how to remove the thin circular reflective disc from the outer caliper half. I don't want to damage it as it is in good conditio...

Many thanks for the tips and advice. I know stainless will always look better and last longer but... the Z1's were great but not perfect. Whether stupid or plain stuborn, I kind of want mine to be as close to what it was and just hate throwing stuff out because it's old. Have just picked up the guar...

Chrome of BZP?

First silly question on my '73 Z1 retoration. Many of the nuts and bolts have oxidation or surface rust and even after a good wire brushing sometimes I'm not sure if they were originally zinc plated or chrome. Like the 6mm hex bolts that attach the cable guides to the 3 way hydraulic brake joint, or...
