Z1B headlamp shell

Hi,
I'm restoring a 1975 Z1B. I need to replace the headlamp shell.
Could anybody advise if the UK spec model had the hole in the top which was blanked off with a rubber grommet? Or should I not drill the new headlamp shell.

Thanks for any pointers.

Cheers Paul

Engine case cleaning

Hi Guys, I've got a Z1B that I'm starting to restore. The engine casings are ok. But show some signs of weathering, very light furring and a bit dull ( a bit lik myself!). The engines coming out to allow the frame to be painted. But I wonder is there a way to clean up and restore the finish to the cr...

Frame/engine numbers

Hi guys,
I'm considering buying a Z1B it looks a bit tired but nothing too bad (what is these days)
My only problem is the frame and engine numbers are 230 numbers apart.
Is this ok to count as 'matching numbers'

Many thanks for any help.

Z1 tyre choice

Hi Guys, I'm getting my spokes replaced and while I'm at it I fancy replacing the fairly worn tyres. I'm after a pair of tyres that look in keeping with my 73 Z1. But with reasonable grip and hanging onto any good handling qualities that the bike has. Any suggestions and recommendations for supplier...

Hi Guys, I'm going to get my front wheel rebuilt and whilst I'm at it I thought I'd repaint the hub an speedo drive etc. Does anyone have any paint they could recommend to replicate the colour and texture of the original. Also something that is wd40 and general solvent type stuff resistant with out ...

Brake bleeding

Hi Guys, In an attempt to get my Z1 to stop I've replaced the entire front twin disc brake system as it was all very tired looking. I've got some silicon brake fluid ready. I just wondered does anybody have some good tips for bleeding the brakes from scratch? I've heard that it's easier if I inject ...

Thanks very much for the info. I've connected it up that way with a new bulb.but no light. I'll have to trace it back a little more. Could you recommend anybody near here,I'm about four miles from Oulton Park. Electrics isn't my best subject.
Many thanks

Z1 headlamp wiring

Hi Guys, I've fitted a new wiring loom whilst rebuilding my Z1. Everything else works.but the original wiring from the headlamp and side light is a little worn and doesn't math any of the colours from the main loom. Torque settings

Hi all, Well my Z1 is back together. I've got an oil 'weepage' from the cam cover. But I can't find the torque setting for the cam cover bolts in the Clymer manual. I'd like to tighten them down a bit more, but don't want to over stress or strip anything. Does anybody know the torque settings? Many t...

I went for the Dremel option,it didn't take too much effort. I've 'swapped' the bodywork for a painted set that Hutch had. With cash adjustment obviously.
He even fitted the new tank cap and catch onto the painted tank.what a job!
And a great help.
Cheers

Z1 tank cap removal

Hi Guys, I've had a small attempt at removing my tank cap in preparation for paintwork. But the rolled steel rod that goes through the cap and tank bracket is held fast probably with forty odd years of weather. It's the one the tank cap pivots on, I can't see where I can get much purchase to free it...

Z1 repaint

Hi Guys, I'm looking for a recommendation for somebody to respray my 73 orange/brown Z1 bodywork back to its original non faded condition. The tank also has a couple of scratches and a small dent. I'm about 25 miles south west of Manchester so a place within reasonable driving distance would be a re...
