No you don't need to take them off, just angle them away so you dont end up looking up your own arse :P

One of my other hobbies is astronomy and many of the club members use the following site to have the telescope mirrors re silvered. A phone call maybe worth a shot if you come up with nothing else

Vibration was my issue - I changed out the headlamp rubbers & since then Ive had no more bulbs blow.
