Time to give up perhaps

Had a great day wrecking everything today. First off bolting the camchain tensioner on the housing cracked off at the top bolt position, wasn't even giving it some either. Whilst I was staring at that in disbelief I noticed a drop of oil on the barrel at the back, closer inspection revealed that the...

Stripped Thread

Well it had to happen didn't it, even though I used new bolts, even though I was super careful, even though I used the correct torque the very last bolt that holds the cam caps on stripped the thread in the head and spun like a wheel. What to do? I know it will be an insert of some sort, can I do it...

Thanks for the replies but I'm still feeling a bit numpty. If I rest the exhaust camshaft in its bearing halves then it stands proud due to the cam lobe for no3 valve, due I line up the pointy end of the mark with the head at this stage as upon tightening the caps down it will move or do I adjust sl...

Exhaust Camshaft

When fitting the exhaust camshaft to my Z1000 the Haynes manual says 'so that the mark on the sprocket is aligned with the cylinder head surface'. I presume the mark is this /\ but on its side pointing forwards and you use the top 'line' but when I do that it is a fair way away from the cylinder hea...

Camshaft fitting

When refitting the camshafts how do you ensure the camchain remains engaged on the crank, did mine today and it wasn't, just seems a bit hit and miss. Any good tips from anyone whose done this loads of times as it seems dead fiddly

Cheers, that's a relief. Did notice that half of one of the damper rubbers on the idler had disappeared (new ones ordered).

Cylinder Head Question

Due to debris in crankcase I have decided to remove the cylinder head to check the camchain guides. I have now discovered I have a z1000 head on 903cc barrels, will this have a detrimental effect on anything and which head gasket should be fitted. Thanks in advance

Spoke to my mate in the states (previous owner) and he said prior to his ownership it had had a catastrophic engine failure and been fixed hence 900 barrels on z1000 crankcases. He had never took the sump off so those bits could have been in there for years. Going to take the camshafts out so I can ...

Well done z1bman, top help. I had actually already removed the sump plug so I screwed it back in. Using an old socket extension and my lump hammer gave it a good few smacks and the sump loosened. The gauze filter was quite clean with very few particles but the sump was full of thick goo and unfortun...

Sump Removal

Does anyone one have any sneaky tips or tricks on how to remove the sump of my Z1000. All bolts (17) have been removed and the oil filter and the bugger just wont budge. Have been using a 2lb copper and hide to tap it all over for ages and now seriously @rsed off.
