I do the following: Before taking the bike off the road I run a tank full of fuel through that has been treated with Putoline Fuel Stabiliser. Then I remove & drain the fuel tank - once drained I swill the inside out with WD40 & store it indoors in a cardboard box for winter. Next step is to...

I have stripped the carbs down (again) and the needle emulsion tubes are pitted, the keyster kit at NRP includes emulsion tubes are they not good quality ? My mate Jeff didn't have a problem with the NRP kits. I got the Genuine Mikuni items from Allens Performance. So either should do the trick. I ...

As per jphaynes669 . I had the exact same problem with my Z1000 MKII Check the needle jets (a press fit into the carb bodies above the main jet / emulsion tubes) If these are worn or pitted they let fuel past the needle giving an over rich mixture just off idle & a massive flat spot. You can get...

Z1000 MKII Chainguard.

Anyone know if there is a chain-guard from a modern bike that will fit the MarkII ?

(I don't like the ugly black plastic OE one & I don't like the chrome kawasaki ones that you see on an LTD).

Cheers

Had a similar problem with my Mark II when I raised the needle to cure a mid range flat spot. Raising the needle 1 notch cured the flat spot but the revs would hang in the same way as yours. The solution was to raise the needle by half a groove only - you can do this with some tiny washers that are ...

I'm running a Harris 4 into 1 on my Z1000 MKII I found the following: 1 size up on pilot jet gave me a smooth idle #17.5 Main jet standard #105 At standard needle clip position - bike was flat in the mid range. Lifting the needle 1 clip position got rid of the flat spot but the revs would hang &...

Keith,
Best to go for 3 Ohm coils without the ballast resistor because if a 30 year old plus MKII ignition fails at some point then 1.5 Ohm coils are no good for a Dyna S ignition.
Anyway, that was my logic for buying 3 Ohm coils.

I'm running 3 ohm Green Dynacoils with my standard Mark II ignition.
You need to remove the Ballast Resistor used with the standard MKII coils.
Been running like this for 3 years with no issues.
