morris's 10w40 will be perfectly ok

the pats diagram shows both options so you will have to remove the cover to see which one it fitted to yours

use a hair drier to heat them up then push the guard towards the fork tube & they should come off

they are different because one side has a bigger hole to take the nut

have you removed the starter clutch from the rotor to make sure the core of the rotor has not become detached from the aluminium

put the piston in a saucepan of hot water & boil it on the stove

when you say you can turn it over with a socket does it turn freely? have you removed the plugs so you can feel if its catching the stator? does the large starter gear turn freely ?

is the rotor touching the stator?
