Right after yet another postage debacle I got the battery and it works fine. Turned the motor over for a minute constantly and was still showing 12.42v on my cheapo multimeter after that so should be fine I reckon, could probably get away with a 7Ah too I reckon as long as the bike starts pretty eas...

Folding Kickstart for a Z1R

As the title really. I know Z-Power do pattern ones but they're £40. Anyone got a used one cluttering up the shed they want rid of? Also I'm not too fussed about originality so if you've got anything else that will fit and work ok then that'd be fine. Cheers, Ben.

Ordered the battery about half past 4, got an email of TNT saying it'll be with me by 10am tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it but if it does then I'll let you know tomorrow night!

Ben, I don't know about the smallest size you could get away with, but I would consider a Gel filled battery. I believe it's safe to mount these on thier side. This may help you fit a larger battery in the space you have. Yeah I've been having a scout about on ebay and through a few electrical supp...

Repaired! The ballast resistor doesn't go in there. The upside is that if a complete Neanderthal hasn't had it before they are quite good ignitions! SH232 is a common fitment, it's a H**** RR to replace the Kawasaki seperate items on the earlier models. Yeah after gouging all the silicone out I've ...

I took the IC box off today to see about sorting all the connections out to find that it's been cut open and filled with silicone. Could this have been done whilst putting the ballast resistors in? Or is it just more likley to be due to the unit failing and being "repaired"? Cheers, Ben

Battery Size?

I'm after a small battery that I can hide away under the tail unit of my Z1R. Does anyone know what the lowest amp-hour rating you can get away with running a Zed. The only ancilliarys I'm using is the lights and a horn. All the indicators and associated gubbins have been removed. The only major dra...

Dyna S Ignition Kit

Seeing as the electrics on my Z1R seem to be made up of a mix of components from 3 different bikes I'm looking for a dyna S kit and coils to sort it out. Only thing is I'm absolutely skint so it'll have to be cheap cheap. Anyone got a used set kicking about in the shed gathering dust? Any other alte...

You have mk2 ignitor box, what look to be 2.2 ohm coils and the pickups should be wired direct to the ignitor box. For that ignition it should also run through a 1.5 ohm ballast resistor to 1.5 ohm coils. It will work fine if you put some 3 Ohm dynas on it, when/if you get it running check the igni...

Thanks for that Pigford. As long as the switch can take the amperage I'll try it without a relay and see what sort of voltage I'm getting at the coils. If it's no good then I'll put a relay in. Hopefully some new wire and a much simpler loom will mean the drop is pretty low. As for the state of the ...

Is this due to the ignition key switch not being quite up to handling the amperage for the supply to the coils? If so then I'll invest in another relay and get it sorted. It's definitely not been done properly though, the relay has been split open at some point and glued back together with what look...

The saga continues... I've traced the reason the bike had no spark back to a faulty ignition relay. It's got a permanant live feed, earth, switch and live output to the coils. Only the output to the coils is dead as a dodo. Only thing is I can't seem to find any sign of an ignition relay anywhere on...
