TYRES - Metzeler Sportec Klassik

Anyone tried the new Metzeler Sportec Klassik's Available in the old imperial sizes and the advertising/marketing videos suggest that they are designed specifically for the Z era bikes (and a bit beyond) I've previously used BT45's on my Z900A4 but just wondered if these may be better as the BT45's ...

If you really want to find the original that you dropped in your workshop, just switch out the lights and walk around bare foot with a Ming vase in each hand.

You should locate it in a matter of seconds!

Well, at least you are using your Z. Mine hasn't moved for over six months.

Just out of interest, do you charge extra for "Next day before 9:00 by classic Z1"

I've never seen that option on anything I've ordered.

Cheers,
Andy

Z1 Spotted at Rugeley Power Station!

I spotted a Brown/Orange 73 Z1 on the site roads inside Rugeley power station on Wednesday morning.

Anyone know who's it is?

My temporary trial mod of three years ago is still in place as follows:- You have a choice; to convert to 76 design mod the baffles as follows:- Remove wadding as this is no longer needed. Wrap some Klingerite type gasket material around the holes on the back section. The length is critical and requ...

Well spotted RogerJ Yes it was my post back in 2008 and they are my drawings. As you can see the issue was fairly complex but only relates to pattern pipes hence my asking sneck what is fitted to the bike with the current noise problem. I spent ages getting to the bottom of my problem but the nutshe...

Sneck, are the pipes genuine or pattern?

If they're pattern I'm pretty sure I know why they are too loud - a (very)long story but mine are now sorted!

Found my old drawings - a bit rougher than I thought! A couple of the dimensions slightly contradict each other but may be of some use to you. Can't find any info relating to diameters - I'll keep looking. These are from a pattern set of pipes circa 2006ish One of the baffles has a shorter length of...

Are the standard pipes genuine Kawasaki or pattern pipes?

I made some rough drawings when investigating the over loudness of my pattern pipes (now resolved), I'll see if I can dig them out.

Clutch Cable Route

My clutch cable outer sheath has been damaged by being pinched in the steering stops under the lower yoke. I've got a new cable ready to fit but I'm not convinced that the existing cable is routed correctly in the first place - Top or bottom! At the lower end, should the cable pass inside or outside...

Great minds think alike! - I had already fitted a washer behind the sprocket for each stud - I managed to find some nice laser cut stainless ones rather than the usual punched and plated type. These were exactly 1.5mm thick and as the plain front sprocket had a 1.4mm spacer behind this should be cor...

Assuming you have standard 26mm carbs 115/17.5 is correct.

I always check my float height with the carbs on the bike but according to the Z-Power parts book the setting is 24mm.

Wheel and Sprocket Alignment Methods

After discovering that there was no spacer fitted behind the rear sprocket on my Z900A4 I was advised to do an alignment check to determine if one is needed (spacer is shown in parts manual, using O ring chain). As I've had the rear wheel/swingarm out at the same time I obviously need to align the w...

Sweptail - thanks for the spacer info, 40mm makes sense as the Z900A4/Z1000A1 springs are 40mm shorter than the Z1A/Z1B springs which do not have a spacer. TLC - Not sure that's the "D" that I'm looking for. So I'm still after:- 1978 Z1000A1/Z1R (Z1000-D1)- these have the same springs. 198...

I said no Guessing!!! :D You are right about the part no. 44026-071 being used in the Z1000A1 and that part is also used in the Z900A4. In both cases the standard length of spring is 465 and a spacer is fitted above. All I want to know (from a genuine kawasaki manual) is: Z1000A2/Z1R(Z1000D1) spring...
