I use Keith garage. The mechanic is ex ducati dealer. Belts change cost me under £200 and considering the cost of genuine belts that is pretty cheap and takes away the risk. I know its a journey for you bit book it in for a Saturday and take a trip up some great roads. My 996 has done similar milea...

I was forced to sell my last z1000 as every time I wanted to use it there would be a carb issue. I popped a dent out like that with the use of an air line at the local petrol garage using the rubber foot of a cycle rack with a hole through the middle. I about shit myself when it popped out though as it was a massive bang.
