when this problem occurs have you still got free pay in the adjuster rod? make sure you have not over filled the reservoir you must have an air gap between the fluid + the rubber seal. might be worth removing the master cylinder piston to make sure everything is clean + working smoothly Yeah there'...

No, it's not that, there's plenty of play. Previous to this happening the bike has done a good 10k miles with the same back brake setup. the rod is not adjustable and has play once the piston in the master cylinder is against its circlip.

I hardly use the back brake, if I do it's usually to hold me at a junction.

The pistons seem free enough when the caliper is cold. I can blow through every hole in the master cylinder easily. When I left it to cool it freed itself.

Just going to strip the caliper again now.

My z1000 A1 did this with semi synthetic oil, a switch to mineral oil cured it.

AARGH!! Back brake help please!

This is weird. I set off on a trip in the last of 2012s warm weather. 10 miles into the journey the back brake came on. On its own, I hadn't used it. It stopped the bike and stayed locked. The caliper is a Gremeca twin piston one and the master cylinder is the standard one with the reservoir built i...

Well I narrowed the fault down to the Dyna S sensor on the crank. Dynatek are the agents so I rang them. I told them that it was 2 or 3 years old but only fitted recently and they said send it to them for testing. They have sent me a new one free of charge. Big thankyou to Dynatek!! Buy some stuff o...

Yes, checked the plugs. All ok. I think the Dyna s sensor for 1 & 4 must be shot.

Running on two

Hi, my z1000 dropped onto 2 cylinders on the way to work this morning, it's lost the outside 2. I swapped the plugleads outer for inner and swapped the trigger wire to the coils and the other coil will work the middle cylinders so it's not the coil. It's got a dyna s ignition which all looks ok unde...

Mine does it too! The previous owner even gave me a spare plug and spanner to keep under the seat so I can change it if it feels ropey at low revs.

Sorted, thanks for replies, was the crankcase breather. Airbox has been removed and the breather rerouted. Was kinked.

I've put a couple of hundred miles on it now, changed the oil and it still does it. Not as much though and not as often.

I'll stick with it I suppose!

Yes the exhaust. Funny really, not "Something to worry about" type smoke, more "Granny's car warming up" type smoke.

Smoking

My bike smokes intermittantly. Usually it's fine but sometimes when I stop at traffic lights it smokes. Grey smoke. Then I can do a mile or 2 and stop again and it's fine. The bike hasn't been used for years, the tyres have been on it for 5 years. It's done under 20k from new.
