Hello Phil, it was just a thought that the cam chain tunnel was leaking but if you used the correct gasket it shouldnt be a problem, head gasket issues dont always show up on a compression test, theres a big difference between spinning the engine over on the starter and running at several thousand r...

1400cc with high compression motors start with no problem on the button so if 1015 wont then its probably poor battery, Yuasa batteries are good, poor wiring, or often its the starter motor now, many starter motors have had no attention whatsoever in 30 years, it could also be ignition timing issue ...

Well spotted Ginger bear :shock: I wanted the earlier crank cases because of the way they mount into the chassis, the later crankcase are rubber mounted and use less mounting points. late ZX1100 crankshaft has a better rotor bolt, its much bigger and this means the rotor/starter clutch is less prone...

Been busy for a while so not much progress over the last couple of months but did manage to assemble the transmission into the crank cases today, crank has been balanced and welded and new h/d gerarbox bearings along with slipper style clutch centre http://www.debben.co.uk/z1000ccase.jpg

Yes the header pipe spacing is good, but... theres always a but isnt there, the angle of the cylinder head is tipped forward on the gsxr, the z is far more upright so the exhaust sticks out then curves pointing towards the floor, kind of a stick out down swept look, you need to cut and weld the head...
