If you come down-under give me a "heads up" and I'll give you some of my preferences for the best roads/scenery/accomodation etc. If you simply followed our 2015 route you would really enjoy it. I've done lots of South Island roads but the 2015 trip was the best one. The ride up to Glenorc...

New Zealand South Island tour November 2015

Hello Zed fans. I took these photos back in November 2015. Quite a bit of Z1 action. It was one of our typically great rides. Plenty of cooked breakfasts, lots of laughs, scenery and traffic free roads. I ride with the Classic Japanese Motorcycle Group here in Christchurch, NZ. https://picasaweb.goo...

I've gone thru three or four of the Chinese ones. They don't use nitrile seals so the seals just turn to gum and leak. I took one of mine to the seal distributor and when I got home I found the Chinese had changed the barrel/on/off system from a tube with holes to a bloody cone shape. The guy down a...

Replacing swing arm bushings/inserts. Can you help?

Are there any tricks to doing it or things to be avoided?. I'm going to remove the swing arm, hold it in a vice and drive the bushes out from the opposite side using a round steel rod. Then leave the arm in the sun (I'm an optimist) and remove the bushes from the freezer and press them in using a be...

Reproduction gauge faces on eBay

There's a seller in the USA called retro-motorcycles who has some great looking and reasonably priced faces. Has anyone bought these? What do the experts think? To fit a 1973 model USA spec frame number 16632. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-kawasaki-z1-gauge-speedo-SPEEDOMETER-FACE-PLATE-guage-instrum...

I had this problem for about 18 months on my fresh USA import, intermittent white smoke. Once, extreme white smoke! I suspected stuck oil rings on the pistons and that's what it was. The bike had been sitting, I think, for about 20 years. Jeff Saunders of Z1 enterprises has confirmed this is a probl...

In 1980 something we bought a 'puter and as I collect Japanese tin toys from the 1960's and 70's I went for toycollector. But that was taken, and so was 1 through to 9 so I became TC10. Subsequently I got me two classic Japanese bikes and a Datsun 240z and two Toy Poodles so it kind of worked out, e...

There are posts on this forum about over filling with oil. The Z's like the oil to be sitting near the bottom of the two marks. If it's up to the top it just gets blown off until it's burned down to the lower mark and that's where it stays.

I could only get one speaker to work on the old factory fitted AM radio. So I went looking for the fault and had a look at the Haynes manual.
Uh oh, mono only for this early model.

Datsun 240Z Downunder

I found this car about three years ago. It was pretty neglected so everything from the fly-wheel back, clutch, gearbox, springs and shock absorbers and mounts, suspension bushes, universals, brakes and tyres etc have been replaced or overhauled. It drives like a new car now. The engine is fine. I lo...
