Hello Warren, yes, looking at it, it looks more like sloppy welding and I've had a professional mechanic look at it and he seems pretty happy with it. I guess even the Japanese have 'poets' days! It's probably a Japanese built bike as it was registered in the U.K. but it may have been imported at so...

Z650 frame
Hello, I'm working on a Z650 frame from the mid '70s at the moment and have noticed that the lateral frame tubes don't seem to be aligned. For instance, if you look at the frame from the front, the cross member under the steering head is at an angle to the cross member in front of the upper shock ab...

Hello Hardcore, thanks for the information. I'm currently fitting a set of empty cases into the frame and making possible engine plate shapes using cardboard to try to get into the right area. If the engine is level in the frame, will it be possible to remove the cam cover to access the valves for a...

Fitting Z1000A engine into Z650 frame
Hello all, can anyone give me some info about fitting a Z1000 engine into a Z650 frame as regards checking valve clearances? I've had to tilt the engine forward to clear the swinging arm so the rear end is raised by about 1/2" but could be jiggled a bit as the engine plates haven't been made ye...

It's been said that the engine has to removed to allow access to the valves for clearance adjustment on a project like this, but is it possible to trim the centre lower mount lugs on the crankcases to allow the engine to drop in the frame to remove the cam cover? Or is it all just scuttlebut? Cheers...

Hello Folks, thanks for all the info. I'll check it out but so far indiscriminate use of an angle grinder has allowed the engine to fit in quite well- now I'll have to try to fit the swinging arm! Cheers, MikeJ P.S.I do have most of the parts for the bike- the problem is getting them to fit together...

Z650/Z1000 project
Hello Folks,
being a bit old and the old legs getting a bit wobbly, I was wondering how practical it would be to fit my spare Z1000 engine in a Z650 chassis to make a bike which is easier to handle than the standard Z1000. Has anyone done this and could give some advice?
Cheers, MikeJ
