Assuming its the same as the J; the flat plate with the captive bearings in it has a cut away on one side. The inner casing cast boss has a 'tab' where the bearing plate sits. Its barely noticeable. Make sure the plate is not sitting on top of the tab and the flat cut away side is on the tab side. ...

The part shown is part of the very item I need, thanks for your help, partzilla do the same set up on the 1983 Z1000 J3. Hopefully I can help someone out in due course.
