While you are waiting - I had a similar problem and got some advice from one member that worked - basically it was the idle pilot jets that were set too rich and the bike ran fine on old plugs. After fitting new plugs (modern plugs appear to like to run lean) the problems started. Solution was to cl...

I have used POR15 three stage treatment on the Z1000 tank two years ago and it appears to do a brilliant job - messy, yes and critical to follow the instructions. Done the same on my Harley tank last year and again good result and my mate has done his GPZ900. :D Not sure how long it will last and wh...

Well - could it be this simple? I checked the pilot screws and they were two turns out, so I re-set them to one turn. I cleaned the blackened iridium plugs. She starts up OK and appears to run well with a "splashy" (i.e. slightly lean) exhaust note on tickover. If zorded is right (and I th...

thanks zorded - some interesting observations and link to the useful thread. I suspect that my pilot settings are too rich, fouling the plugs which then can't clear themselves. Will follow-up and if it's the case, you have saved me a lot of time, money and frustration. Fingers crossed it is ...

A difficult diagnosis

Problem: Bike was running fine but recently has coughed and spluttered on starting, runs OK once warm but still not as responsive as she should. I fitted new spark plugs – problem goes away – for about 100 miles then repeats. Fit new spark plugs (iridium this time) – bike runs really well – ...

Fuelling or ignition

My ’78 Z1000 has been bugging me for weeks now as she refuses to run right when I first start her. I cold start the old girl with choke and no throttle, as always and she starts first time, every time. She runs fine on idle but as soon as open the throttle a bit she misfires – I can just ...

Thanks guys - looks like a new Dyna 2000 it will be. I like the idea of the solar charger but in an underground garage that could be a bit of a challenge. :)

Newtronic ignotion failing? - is Boyer better?

My 78 Z1000 has started mis-behaving on start-up. She caughs backfires and splutters when I first start her up after a couple weeks of not using her - I have two other bikes to keep happy, so the old Zed gets a run every couple of weeks  I think the problem is that the battery loses voltage ov...

Try these guys http://www.londonchroming.co.uk/ The work they did for me was first class - not cheap but great quality. The front mudguard had a small dent which they fixed and you would never know plus there is no sign of any pock-marking from old rust (which I have seen on some restored bikes). Go...

Ah - some light!

Are you saying that the Z1 swinging arm bearings are bushes and b*ggers to remove while the Z1000 (mine's a 1978 A2) are needle rollers and a piece of cake to replace? Or am I getting confused now?

Swinging arm bush replacement

I want to replace the swinging arm bushes on my KZ1000 A2 - is this one of those jobs you wish you never started and are there any tips for a first timer please?

Do I fit just new bushes or the shaft as well and are these available from Z Power? :??
